Vimco Diamond Corp was incorporated in 1985 as a satellite office for a pre-established family owned business dating back to three generations. Hailing out of Jaipur renowned as the colored stone city of India, Hirawat family had always been an established business house in the colored stone business. In the early 60’s, Mr. Kailash Hirawat (father of Vimco founder and AGS membership applicant Dharmendra Anu Hirawat) started venturing in countries like Hong Kong, Thailand, Japan, Italy and USA to promote sales and bi-lateral trade with other members of the industry. Slowly under the guidance of Kailash’s late father Kewal Chand Hirawat and with the support of Kailash’s two younger brothers Prakash Hirawat and Vimal Hirawat, he took the business to a new level. Not being satisfied with just being a trader in the local market, he started procuring rough from Brazil, Africa, and Russia and started cutting and polishing gem stones to sell to customers in the Far East, Europe and America. Seeking opportunities and with experience, Kailash commissioned his youngest brother Vimal to start an office in Bombay to procure and sell diamonds to the customers the three brothers cultivated on their several trips with each brother taking responsibility of separate facets of the business.
Early in the eighties was when the third generation of the Hirawat family started to enter the business. Kailash sent his eldest son Anu (Dharmendra) to GIA in Santa Monica, California. Anu completed his GG in 1982 and took the experience of what he learnt to India to start a small cutting factory for small diamonds in Bombay and Navsari which is a bustling diamond cutting town. 1985 saw the entry of Anu’s younger brother Dhirendra into the business. Kailash saw another opportunity and shipped his elder son Anu to New York in 1985 to establish a sales office called Vimco Diamond Corp for loose diamonds while giving the charge of the factory to the younger sibling Dhirenda and a few trusted team members that were trained and employed during the establishment. Meanwhile Mr. Vimal had already established successful partnerships in Hong Kong and Thailand to promote and expand the sales in the Far East.
Not just sitting on his laurels, the group again made strategically moves when the sons of Mr. Vimal started entering the business. Anu’s younger brother Dhirenda was sent to Antwerp to establish Belgian office of Vimco Diamond, streamline the supply of rough, and oversee the European sales.
Today the family operates and does successful business in Bombay, Bangkok, Antwerp, and New York while still maintaining an office in Jaipur where it all began!
Vimco Diamond Corp. has been promoting better quality diamonds with ideal and near ideal proportions. Our thrust always has been to satisfy customers while trying to upgrade those, who are and were still using diamonds of poor makes and quality, to the AGS class stores. Our aim is to turn any independent retail jewelry store into AGS class using near ideal make diamonds for the same price of normal make diamonds. Starting from just selling melees, today the company procures and promotes rounds and princess cuts in sizes up to 5.00cts. With a large inventory of melees and pointers we also maintain a modest inventory of certified diamonds by AGS, GIA, IGI, and EGL. We cater to independent retailers across America, Canada and Mexico. In the early turn of the century we also started mounting a modest line of ‘core jewelry items’ and incentives that were promoted by De Beers and supported by the DPS. Today Vimco manufactures and markets Solitaire & Studs, Past Present & Future, Journey, Anniversary Bands, Bracelets, Riviera Necklaces and many more items for their customers. We market these products through professional and dedicated sales force and participate in various trade shows such as JCK, AGTA and JA.
